Posse Member Highlight: Dan Korn

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Making a statement and promoting not just bicycling, but Tall Biking as a viable form of transportation! That’s a JC Higgins top frame, one of my favorites. Thanks Dan for advocating all that is Tall Bike related and then some.

As see at Maker Faire 2011

I think what is most excellent about Tall Bike Posse is; we are everywhere! That means at any given time there is a posse of tall bikes riding somewhere. Keep that in mind when you are a lonely tall biker. You have the posse sticker to remind you and others that you are never alone!

Adopt a highway

Adopt a highway

This is how I roll...

This is how I roll...

Come Join the Tall Bike Posse Saturday Sept. 25th for Highway Cleanup. The Tall Bike Posse will be picking up trash on our section of highway which we sponsor through the Caltrans Adopt-A-Highway program. This event is scheduled to coincide with Coastal Cleanup Day, the country’s premier marine environment volunteer event. Join the Tall Bike Posse and  do a sweep of the sweetest piece of adopted highway anywhere! See the Flickr photos of past cleanup events

What You need to bring:

  1. Yourself
  2. A friend
  3. A bike or good walking shoes

This event is for 18 years and older. Unfortunately our liability will not allow you to bring young children.

We meet at 9am sharp at the Park and Ride near the Santa Margarita freeway exit for safety brief then depart at 9:30.

I provide the necessary cleanup items which include:

  1. Hardhat
  2. Gloves
  3. Safety glasses
  4. OSHA approved safety vests
  5. Trash bags
  6. Pick up sticks

All you  SLO road riders pay attention: When your Peloton passes through Santa Margarita, pay homage to the Adopt-a-Highway sign on the west side of town, then on your return trip out hwy 58, again pay homage at the AAH sign on the eastern border of town. Without us Tall bikers, you would be patching more rubber under a shade tree than you already are. In fact, I dare you to join us.

Get involved with your community!

Roadside Cleanup Report 03/14/10

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

Adopt-A-Highway roadside cleanup for March was just me and my trusty Raleigh Superbe. We covered the 2.5 mile stretch of Hwy 58 where we have a 5-year permit to maintain. It’s the most beautiful piece of highway anyone would ever want to clean!

There were plenty of cyclists heading out for the Hwy 58 loop and I made sure they knew who was keeping this highway clean for their use.

All are welcome to join me on the second Saturday (sometimes Sunday) of every month. Gather at the Park and Ride by the Santa Margarita Hwy 101 exit for a safety brief - 9am sharp.

The Tall Bike Posse from Nick Goodenough on Vimeo.
I got an unexpected email from a student filmmaker Nick Goodenough. He thought I’d be interested in seeing the final product of his class assignment. Hell Yeah! He filmed this footage during the 2007 SLO Criterium, and caught us on the community bike happening parade, the Thursday night “bubbles” bike happening and a backyard birthday party hosted by Deputy Tom. Thanks Nick for posting this. I hope you enter it into some short bike film festivals as well as our Bike Momentum art show.

The theme for the June Bike Happening ride was: Tutu, Feathers, A Summer Formal. The sub-theme was: Fashion Faux Pas & EIGHT. I was aiming for a summer formal Faux Pas and I think I nailed it. Anyone know the unofficial head count?

Bike Art Build at the Brewery

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

There will be a Bike Art Build on Saturday April 12th at Central Coast Brewery 1422 Monterey Street, San Luis Obispo

Experience poetry in motion from noon until we “Get’er done”. The Tall Bike Posse will have bins of bikes to cut hack and reinvent what “Art” is. Bring Beer money because we’ll be drinking some of the Central Coast’s finest. Even if you don’t build, come on over and socialize, oogle at the creations, take a demo ride, head on over to Cambria Bike Outfitters to compare and contrast, sip on cappuccino at the Outspoken Beverage Bistro like the wanker you are.

The Tall Bike Posse will use this time to make art for the upcoming Bike art shows in San Luis Obispo and Atascadero - yes that’s two art galleries during the month of May. If you wish to know more about the show or want to build, show up and let’s shoot the bull.

A moment for reflection…

The Central Coast chapter has been in existence for three years. What have we done? Drank beer yes, but there’s more to us than that. We demonstrate our ability to “Get ‘Er Done”, “Posse-Up” and “Ride High with That Guy” check out our presentation given at the Central Coast Brewery on Thursday January 31st 2008. Make sure you view as a slideshow.

Thank you Jim and George for opening up Central Coast Brewery for our first Town Hall Meeting of ‘08.
